The Perfect Margarita!

The truth is, I got this recipe several years ago from a Grand Marnier ad in a magazine!! It’s shaken, not stirred (yeah, baby!), not the frozen, slushy kind. It is the best margarita I’ve ever made or had, and everyone I know has said the same!!

I know it sounds like a product plug, but I guarantee that neither I nor anyone I know is an employee of or rep for Grand Marnier!

Grand Marnier Margarita
30 ml/1 oz Grand Marnier liqueur
30 ml/1 oz Tequila
30 ml/1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice

Pour all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake to your liking and strain into a margarita glass rimmed with salt. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Notes:
I know that in California (and perhaps the rest of the USA), there are a myriad of options for tequilas. In Canada (and especially where I live), our options are fewer. I recommend Sauza Conmemorativo Imported Tequila Anejo (Aged) – super smooth and especially lovable in this drink.

These are freakin’ potent! And exceptionally quaffable, especially on a hot summer day!! Please drink responsibly and plan ahead for your guests if you aim to serve these delightful drinkies! Taxis are always one option; invest in knee and elbow pads if you think walking seems viable – trust me on this one!!

If you somehow miraculously don’t finish the bottle of Grand Marnier and are looking for other ideas on how to use it, the Grand Marnier web site offers lots of other delicious drink recipes (complete with tasting notes and pairing suggestions), plus a deck of decadent dessert offerings!

My own pairing suggestion: serve these babies with our own Grilled Citrus Jalapeno Shrimp!!

Enjoy!!

A couple of comments on your margarita:
That is a good ratio if you use GM.
I would suggest a better anejo tequila than the one you've mentioned, because the one you've mentioned is not 100% Agave. Try Centenario Anejo, for instance.
But if you like to vary margarita flavors from time to time, here's a great alternative:
1 oz. Cointreau
2 oz. premium silver 100% Agave tequila
the juice from a fresh lime.
A final alternative borrows from a Mexican tradition of beer and lime, and is fun for variety:
1 oz. triple sec
1 oz. Reposado tequila
the juice from a fresh lime
and a splash of a pilsner style beer.
These are all good margarita recipes, and stay relatively true to the pure goodness of the classic drink

Hey, Wade! Thanks for the tequila tip -- I'll definitely see if we can get some in, through our local boozeteria (er, the *good* one, that is). Unfortunately, I'm allergic to beer (yes, you read that right) so I won't be able to try your Mexican version, but I'm sure the GG and Mooby will be all over it! Cheers!!

Thanks for the recipe, YYYYYUUUUMMYYY!!! I wanted to share this, why don't you try mixing purple with it. You must have heard about it since it's doing a lot of rounds in the celebrity circuit and is all over the news. Its tastes amazing with everything, can mix it in cocktails and smoothies, try it and let me know if you liked it or not. It is a health drink which is made up of 7 fruits juice and is high on antioxidants and you know about antioxidants right? it prevents premature ageing, what else do growing women want huh, LOL!! If you want more information to check whether what I am saying is right you can get it at www.drinkpurple.com . You can get it at GNC and drug stores. Could not help sharing it!
